The Olympics were very serious and difficult games. They were different than the current games. The people who lost had a very difficult time. Most of the time that they had a wrestling event; the losers died. In a footrace the loosers just lost and walked home. Women were not allowed into the games. They had their own games. In the early times only Greek men were allowed. Later Italian, Turkish, Spanish, and France men joined. Every 4 years, it was time for the Olympics to start. The Greeks sent messengers all over the Mediterranean and Black Sea. They stopped at every big city and screamed, “Olympics, Olympics” Sports were added over time to make the games more interesting. Even today people add sports. The winner of the Olympics won an oil pot, and a crown, but no money. When the winner returned to his town, they made a statue for him.
