My reflections on
How to Humanize an Online Course

I have learned new tools- Canva, VT, Tackk, and Animoto, and have a new sense, and the tools, of the need to build in more interactive actions beyond the standard team projects where teams use Screencast-o-matic and create YouTube vides.

I was most impressed by the ebook, How to Humanize Your Online Class with VoiceThread (Michelle Pacensky-Brock, 2013) and Workload Reduction in Online Courses: Getting Some Shuteye (Joanna Dunlap, 2005).

I ran through the 13 workload reduction strategies and I have been missing out on a lot of opportunities!

I will replace the weekly Soundcloud overview with an Animoto production. And I will build in VT activities into the Discussion Board and use the rubric we were exposed to in an article. The first week I will use VT as an introduction tool as well as the standard business slide.

HI Skip. Your video is terrific! I see you have posters noted as a course topic. If your students are creating posters, you may want to consider Piktochart.com. It's a free Infographic/poster creation tool that I used to make the Humanizing Infographic shared in our course.

I'm pleased to see you identify two resources as helpful (the eBook and the article about workload reduction). I hope your second round of implementing VoiceThread goes well. Sounds like you have your arms around some clear improvements you will make. Good for you! And thank you for agreeing to share this week on Thursday. I'll be in touch soon.
