Why is recycling important? Recycling is important because it keeps trash out of landfills. keeping trash out of landfills is important because trash does not break down. trash just keeps piling up, and stinking. the smell pollutes the air, and the chemicals pollute the soil. the trash can get wound around an animal's neck, and they can choke. many other animals eat the trash, and die from it.
How much trash gets put in landfills every year? 250 million tons of trash are produced in one year, by Americans alone. but only 30% of it gets recycled, so that's 175 million tons of trash per year. But that's still a lot of trash.
What are people doing to keep trash out of landfills? people sometimes recycle. they recycle plastic, aluminum, Styrofoam, cardboard, and scrap metal. some people even create wonderful art and crafts from recyclables! A few people even avoid creating trash at all!
Recycling is a great way to help the environment. Try it!
