Wood plows couldn't plow the rich soil of the Middle-West without breaking. John Deere thought that a plow with mould board, made of good steel that isn't rusted would solve the problem. He started off the first steel plow with an old blade saw. He tried this out on many different types of soil. This new steel plow could plow the rich soil they needed to plow. Since they could plow they rich soil, they could grow crops better. By grow crops better I mean, they could grow crops in loose soil that isn't hard to dig in. Farmers didn't have to clean the steel plow as much as the iron plow. The steel plow didn't clump the soil. The steel plow helped inspire many things, such as farm tractors. This plow didn't cause any problems.
