Human Trafficking

Jared Gormley and Olivia Dutra

Although slavery was abolished long ago, there are still many forms of slavery taking place in the World. One of these forms is Human Trafficking. This is happening all over the world, and we need to find a way to stop it.

"There are still 27 million people in the world who are enslaved, who are bought and sold for sexual exploitation, hard labor, domestic work, and as soldiers." Said Sarah Symons, Made By Survivors Founder and President. Symons is just one of the many people in the World who is trying to get rid of all modern slavery.

Forms of Modern Slavery

Human Trafficking is the bigger problem, but many other types of slavery are included. Child Labor, Labor Trafficking, Sex Trafficking, Child Sex Trafficking, and many more.

Forced Labor is any work or services in which people are forced to do anything against their will under the threat of some form punishment.

Human Trafficking is a crime against the person because of the violation of the victim's rights of movement through coercion and because of their commercial exploitation.

These are just two of the many forms slavery is taking these days.

Who is Affected by Trafficking?

As you can see by the graph above, every race is being affected by human trafficking. Some more than  others, but everyone is still involved. Poverty and famine are two of the main drivers of human trafficking. Older victims usually have less education and are unemployed and are drawn in by promises of a better life through employment or education. The majority of people that are subject to human trafficking are female. Both women and young girls are seeking marriage to find refuge. Children can be drawn in by  traffickers for the same reasons, as well as a chance to help their families by finding jobs. Some families even sell there children because they cant afford to take care of them.

Where is Human Trafficking Practiced?

Human Trafficking is happening all over the world, but the most common place is the U.S. It is a big influence and must be stopped.

How Can We Stop Modern Slavery?

There is no specific solution to stopping Modern Slavery, but there are many ideas on what we can do to stop this. We can become educated, so that we know how to stay away from anything that may evolve into Trafficking. Also, we can be more apt to learning how to stop these terrible people. We can teach future generations how to avoid situations that may result in this. There are many websites as well.
