Pocahontas Area Girls Basketball
The Pocahontas Indians have been taking the floor by storm since the first game. The undefeated squad has retained their number one ranking in 3A. These girls have been working hard every day to prepare themselves for the trials and tribulations they could face in the games to come. After a huge win against school rival, Manson Northwest Webster, the Indians have been fired up and are ready to take on the second half of their season starting after the winter break with the first notable home game on January 1st against Newell-Fonda. Coach Maske comments "As a group, we hope to play each game better than the last and to be playing our best basketball in February and March." These girls have proved him right so far, but the rest is yet to come.
The Indians are looking at a promising season after ending the 2013-2014 season with a close defeat by 2A State Champions, Western Christian. These girls have bumped up a class and have received the number one spot in 3A in preseason ratings. Head Coach Robert Maske and the team plan on building off the momentum they created last season. "We look to continue to grow as a club and learn to push ourselves to new levels" Coach Maske comments. With a handful of returning letterwinners such as, Elle Ruffridge, Faith Meyer, Grace Meyer, Rose Meyer, Autumn Radig, and Janie Brinkman. The experienced team will be joined by many new prospects such as Olivia Ahlers, Ashlyn Weidauer, Jordyn Radig, Addie Duitscher, and Danielle Neumann. Laurens-Marathon has successfully joined basketball programs and added Brooke Runneberg to the Varsity Squad, as well as Kenzie Sullivan, Rhianna Ashenburner, and Hannah Runneberg to the Junior Varsity Roster. As the crew expects to battle for the conference title, they have the confidence they can beat any team on any night. Come join the Indians at home on January 9th against Newell-Fonda, January 20th against South Central Calhoun, February 5th against St. Edmonds, and February 10th against Manson Northwest Webster as they play the game we all love. Coach Maske has said "We appreciate all the support the families, students, and community give us. Please help us by continuing to pack the stands and cheer loud at our games!"
