Anchor charts are my best friend. Honestly I can't go a week of teaching without creating an anchor chart. A visit to my classroom will show you my obsession.
Why, do I love them? It is simple. Anchor charts have had the biggest impact in my students long term retention. When I teach a new or difficult concept I create an anchor chart with my students. Most of the time while I am creating the chart, they create their own for their journal. Then we hang the chart in the classroom and often add to it as our learning progresses. Since I work hard at spiraling my lessons, we go back and refer and learn from our anchor charts all year.
The greatest sense of accomplishment as a teacher is when my students learn to answer their own questions or jog their memory, by taking a look around the room at an anchor chart.
