Hoarding Disorder

Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items.

MYTH: People who hoard are severely mentally ill.

TRUTH: Not all people that hoard are severely mental. Many people who hoard have experienced a traumatic event, terrifying moment,or unsuitability in there life. People can be cured though therapists, friends, family, but this could traumatize the person then they will go right back to the way they were. In some cases trying to help the patent or friend would cause them to get worse.
