The root -nym- means "Name"

Examples

Homonym-DEFINITION- a word that sounds like another word

Acronym-DEFINITION- an abbreviation formed by combining the initial letters in words or parts of a series of words Such as USDA (United States Department of Agriculture)

The root -val- means "to be strong"

Examples

Valuable-DEFINITION- an object that is worth a lot

Valid-DEFINITION- Powerful, strong,or efficient

SUFFIXES

The suffix -Ance- changes a verb or adjective into a noun

Examples

Ignorance-DEFINITION- The state of being ignorant or unaware of something

Appearance-DEFINITION- the way that someone or something looks

The Suffix -ly- turns adjectives into adverb

Examples

calmly-DEFINITION- in a calm or peaceful manner

Quickly-DEFINITION- At a fast speed or rate, rapidly
