Board member at National Association of Sporting Good Wholesalers
About Pete Brownell
Pete Brownell leverages his expertise in the gunsmithing industry to lead the legendary firearms supplier, Brownells, a family-owned and -operated company that has been in business for more than 70 years. As the third-generation Brownell to run the business, Pete Brownell has evolved Brownells from a mail-order catalog business into the world’s largest online distributor of gunsmithing, ammunition and shooting products. He focuses on connecting customers with name-brand manufacturers at exceptional prices and service. In 2007, Brownells purchased precision shooting and reloading component supplier Sinclair International, and recently added ammunition to Brownells’ long list of product offerings. The company is currently in the process of expanding from its Montezuma, Iowa, headquarters to a new office and warehousing facility in Grinnell.
Owing in part to Pete Brownell’s commitment to customer service, the company maintains an A+ rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. He also serves as the second vice president and board member of the National Rifle Association, trustee of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Foundation board, and as a board member of the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers.
Educated at the Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa, Pete Brownell earned an MBA. Previously, he received a BBA from the same university. From 1991 to 1997, he served as a senior sales engineer with Montgomery Elevator Company (which was acquired by KONE) before joining Brownells in the late 1990s. At Brownells, he has served as executive vice president, president, and chief executive officer of the company. An active member of his community, as well, Pete Brownell participates in several local and state leadership organizations. For instance, he earned an appointment as vice chair of the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board.
