Bipolar Disorder is a medical condition in which a person's swings from extreme happiness to extreme depression or meanness. According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance website "approximately 5.7 million adult Americans, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population age 18 and older" are affected every year. Below is a chart that depicts the various symptoms of Bipolar Disorder so you (the reader) can check to see if you or anyone you know has it.
To treat the disorder, doctors have medications that help to keep a patient stable. Something else that is considered is psychotherapy. All anyone needs to do to be treated is ask for a doctors advice when going in for a check up. There are several websites that can help victims get educated about the disorder. I recommend the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance website (http://www.dbsalliance.org/s) and helpguide.org. That is where I got most of my information from!
