Pro Football Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, Ohio. The Hall of Fame's area when it was built was 19,000 sq. ft. After all the installations and add-ons, the area of the Hall Of Fame now is 82,307 sq. ft. The Hall was opened in September of 1963. When the Hall of Fame opened, there were 17 people inducted. As of 2014, there are 287 people.

Why Canton?

1. The NFL was founded in Canton in 1920, originally called the American Professional Football Association.

2. The Canton Bulldogs were a very successful NFL team in its first few years.

3. The Canton community successfully lobbied the NFL to have the hall built in their city.

How Do You Get In?

The Selection Committee has 46 members in it. One representative from each NFL franchise is on the Selection Committee. Any fan can write the hall and nominate any player or coach, but the nominee must be retired at least 5 years. After all the ballots, selections, etc., there are 5 names selected to be inducted into the hall each year.
