CPR Cheat Sheet

Adult/Child CPR

Step 1- Check scene, if unsafe, don't do CPR until scene becomes safe

Step 2- Check person to make sure they are not just sleeping, tap on shoulder blades and shout to check the person

Step 3- Tell someone to activate EMS or call 911, if no one around do it yourself

Step 4- Give 30 compressions at 100 per minute, go at least 2 inches into the chest of an adult, and 1/3 of the chest of a child

Step 5- Open airway of adult/child and give 2 breaths

Step 6- Check if 2 breaths go in

Step 7- Continue steps 4-6 until you get tired and someone else takes over, or until an AED arrives

Infant CPR

Step 1- Check scene, do not attempt CPR until scene becomes same

Step 2- Check person, tap on baby's feet and shout, look at chest for breathing

Step 3- Activate EMS or call 911

Step 4- Give compressions with 2 fingers in between nipples 30 times at 100 per minute

Step 5- Open airway and give 2 breaths lasting about one second

Step 6- Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you get tired and someone else takes over, or until and AED arrives

Adult/Child Conscious Choking

Step 1- Ask person if they are choking

Step 2- If patient can't breathe or speak, treat them

Step 3-Stand behind person with your foot in-between their legs with your other foot behind you

Step 4- Place flat side of hand just above the patient's belly button, grab back of wrist with other hand

Step 5- Give abdominal thrusts pulling inwards and upwards until object comes out or patient becomes unconscious

Infant Concious Choking

Step 1- Support infant's face and place body on forearm

Step 2- Keep infant's head lower than the feet

Step 3- Give 5 back blows between shoulder blades with palm of hand

Step 4- Support infant's head, turn baby over onto your other forearm, give 5 chust thrusts

Step 5- Continue back blows and chest thrusts until object comes out or patient becomes unconscious

Adult/Child Unconscious Choking

Step 1- If giving thrusts and patient goes unconscious lower safely to the ground

Step 2- Call 911

Step 3- Give 30 chest compressions

Step 4- Open airway and check for a foreign body, if something is seen use a finger to sweep it out

Step 5- Attempt rescue breaths, if they don't go in reposition head and try again

Infant Unconscious Choking

Step 1- Lower patient safely to the ground

Step 2- Call 911

Step 3- Open airway and check for foreign object, if something is seen use pinky to sweep it out

Step 4- Give 2 breaths

Step 5- If breaths do not go in re-position head and try again

AED

Step 1- Turn machine on

Step 2- Bare chest, dry off if wet, shave if excessive hair

Step 3- Place one pad on patient's upper right chest above the nipple

Step 4- Place other pad on patient's lower left ribs below armpit

Step 5- Make sure pads are pressed down firmly

Step 6- Follow AED prompts

Step 7- Stand clear, don't touch patient while AED analyzes

Step 8- As soon as AED has shocked give 300 compressions followed by 2 breaths until you see signs of life

AED will analyze every 2 minutes and prompt if a shock is needed
