My Seventh Grade Year
Top Ten Events of Seventh Grade By Anthony Alandt
#10- Radio Plays. For one unit this year we all, in separate groups, made radio plays that were murder and horror based. Our group had a very interesting play, but we did a very good job on it. I had a very fun time working with my group.
#9- Outsiders' Day. After we finished the book The Outsiders, we had Outsiders' Day where kids could dress up as Greasers or Socs. Most people, including me, dressed up as greasers. In our ELA slot we spent twenty minutes doing three different activities- Kahoot!, Password, and a game in Ms. Kris's room.
#8- Image is Powerful Unit. For one of our units this year we read the novel, Uglies that prompted our unit Image is Powerful. Every activity and lesson we did was very interesting and fun to learn about. The most interesting activity we had was the word cloud. Each person wrote down a few traits that other people saw when they saw us, then a few things that were really going on with us that people couldn't see. Then Mr. Kowalski put the words into a word cloud.
#7- Hero. Another one of our units was the hero unit. In this unit we discussed the hero definition, asked what made a hero to you, and the different types of heroes in our lives. I said my hero was and still is Stuart Scott because his fight with cancer and ability to still work at ESPN inspired me.
#6- Formal. My sixth favorite event of this school year was the winter formal. The original formal was cancelled because we had one of our many snow days that Friday. The make-up day was the next Friday and thankfully that day was not cancelled. I had a great time dancing and having fun with all my friends. I also enjoyed dressing up in a black, long sleeved buttoned down dress shirt, black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a maroon tie.
#5- Award Ceremony. Near the end of the school year the middle school had there annual award ceremony at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium. I walked in thinking that I was there just for the 3.5 to 3.99 GPA on the year award. I did get that award, along with a certificate for my help in Mrs. Schweickert's class, and a plague for being an exceptional S.T.A.N.D. member. I was extremely surprised and happy to hear my name called for all the awards.
#4- Christmas. As we do every year around Christmas time, my siblings and I stayed at our grandparents' house for a couple of nights. However, this Christmas was special because it was my baby cousin Ava's first Christmas! Ava was born in July and she is currently my aunts only baby. She is so cute and doing so many new activities everyday!
#3- My Birthday Party. My birthday was on September 29th, but my birthday party was September 21st. For my birthday, I went to the Cleveland Browns game with three of my friends. Beforehand we went to a fun restaurant that was all sports related. The game was the Cleveland Browns vs. the Baltimore Ravens. The stadium was packed and it was the most people I had ever seen in one place. The Browns lost but it was still the best birthday party I have ever had.
#2- Camp. One week at the beginning of May, Kenston had their annual 7th grade camp trip! We stayed for a week at Camp Mauana near the Mansfield Reformatory. It was the best week of this entire school year. We had activities such as Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Pond and Creek Study, and Outdoor Cooking. Our cabins' name was Daconda and had five bunk beds and one counselor bed. I loved everyone in our cabin including the best counselor we could ever have, Paul Gray.
#1- Opening Day. On April 10th, 2015 the Cleveland Indians had their 114th Opening Day! This Opening Day was very special because they revealed their Right Field Renovations that they had been working all winter on. We sat in section 552 along with a sold out crowd of almost 42,000. Even though the Indians took the loss, I can still say that it was the best Opening Day I have ever been to.
Most Memorable HELA Moments
One of my most memorable moments from HELA this year was the Road of Trials with Chuzzlewit activity. Mr. Kowalski thought of this idea which gives me that much more evidence that he is insane. He dressed up as some weird old man named Chuzzlewit who had a set of about seven tasks we had to complete to get Mr. Kowalski back from an evil person. All the activities were really fun. but also challenging in different ways. My favorite activity was the one where we had to get through a path without toching the ground using only two wooden poles and two tennis balls.
The second activity I enjoyed in HELA this year was the Odysseus story. We read the story of Odysseus then talked very in depth about it. We found his strengths, weaknesses, and what he was doing the adventure for. My favorite thing about it all was when we watched a hilarious voice over of Odysseus's encounter with Polyphemous, the Cyclops.
Most Memorable Moment From Another Class
My most memorable moment from another class was in Science when we had to go somewhere and do a slide show on anything science wise in where we went. I went to Patterson's Fruit Farm and made a slide show on Apples and Pumpkins. I liked the idea because it was something I've never heard of before and we learned something new about our science topic! My Suggestions for doing well in the class are pay attention while you are taking notes. Those notes, if good, will access you to straight A's in Science.
Camp was the most amazing week of 7th grade. It is a week away from school, learning, and your normal life. The cabin is a place where you and up to thirteen other friends can talk about the day, life's issues, or anything 7th graders want to talk about. Each day you have breakfast, morning activity, rest time, lunch, rest time, afternoon activity, rest time, dinner, rest time, evening activity, rest/sleep time. My favorite activity was Camo Games where you dress up in long pants and a long shirt and play capture the flag! It is very hot but a blast!
A La Carte
For the final page of my Tackk, I have a little snippet of how I thought seventh grade went down. First off, join a school team or a club. This is a great way to interact with new people and hopefully find some new friends. Next is the dances, which are every other month on a Friday right after school, minus the formal, that's at 7pm. My main tip is just go and have fun! The rest of your friends will be there and what a better way to kick off a weekend than to have an awesome dance. I have one more tip about the dance- don't do anything stupid. I have seen way too many people get in trouble for doing something they're not supposed to. That is all I have for you, study hard, have a little fun, and school will be a breeze!
The more work you put into something, the better reward you will get.
