The Hike to Charlies Bunion
The hike to Charlies Bunion was one of the most magnificent hikes I have ever made. It is a steady climb of over 4 miles one way. We weaved up and around grand views of the North Carolina Smokies along side beautiful wildflowers surrounding us each step we took. The elevation on the highest point of the trip was an astounding 6122 feet. As we stopped to admire the view I said, "Take a long deep breath and smell the beauty of the outdoors." The air was as fresh as a daisy on a clear summer day. At about half way through the trip we came upon the Icewater Spring shelter, named after a nearby spring flowing from a pipe onto the Appalachian Trail. This was a great place to stop for a much needed drink. After 4 long hours, we finally reached Charlies Bunion. Just like the name insists, it is a huge rock sticking out of the mountain The views were absolutely phenomenal. I will always remember that unforgettable day our family hiked 8.1 miles round trip to the magnificent Charlies Bunion.
