The Great Depression
The great depression was from 1929-1939 and was the deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn in the history of the Western industrialized world. The people affected were those who needed money for their family. Most of those people were unemployed. It began soon after the stock market crash of October 1929. 16 million shares were traded after another wave of panic swept Wall Street.
Eugene wants to go to college to become a writer. Hamilton college would be a good college for him.
The tuition for Hamilton college was $250 per year back in 1934. Dormitory choices ranged from $165 per year in South College where the deluxe suites were located, to $70 per year for more austere accommodations in North. one of the major differences between college back then and today is that they are more expensive today. The mascot for this college is Alex.
Going to college also depends on other things such as gas for the car and food. The cost of gas was 17 cents per gallon back in 1930. Food was expensive for those in 1930 but it seems inexpensive for us. A Dozen Eggs 18 Cents in Ohio 1932 and white bread for 8 cents per loaf in New Jersey. Transportation: a new car would cost $600.
Stan's apology letter
Dear Mr. Stroheim,
I apologize for what I have done. I should have not done it without thinking it through. I am so sorry for sweeping dirt on to your shoes. Please forgive me
I am not only asking for forgiveness, but also for my job back. I promise I will not do anything similar to the previous incident. All I was doing was trying to defend Andrew. That will not happen again if I get my job back.
Honestly, I will do whatever it takes to got my job back. I even wrote this apology letter. Please give my job back, I'm begging you. I am very sorry.
Sincerely, Stanley Jerome
