Nelson Mandela, African American man from South Africa. Commonly known as South Africans President.

When Mandela was nine years old, his father died due to lung disease which caused Mandela's life to change dramatically.

Nelson Mandela married the late Evelyn Mase in 1944, where the couple had their first four children.

On December 5th, 1956, Mandela was arrested at his home along with 155 others who called for a nonracial state in South Africa.

Mandela returned from prison on February 11, 1990 at the age of 77 without any conditions, ending 27 and a half years in imprisonment.

Nelson was arrested again on August 5th, 1962 after returning from a broad trip and had been living underground for 17 months. He was convicted of leaving the country illegally.

Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life in prison on June 12, 1964. Mandela spent these next 18 years in a prison called "Robben Island Prison".

Mr. de Klerk and Nelson Mandela share the Nobel Peace Prize in the year of 1993.

April 27, 1994 Mandela was elected President of South Africa.

A few months later Nelson was sworn in as President of South Africa, were he made a speech.

Nelson Mandela divorced his wife Winnie in 1996, where he lived to be single for 2 years and then married Graca Michel, a 52 year old widow.

The South African President , Nelson Mandela died on December 5, 2013.
