Road to Emmaus (lk 24)
two people were walking to the village of Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. as they walked, they also talked about everything that just happened. as they proceeded on, Jesus joined them, but they failed to recognize Him.
Jesus asked the two what they had been discussion on they're walk to Emmaus. They paused with still faces and one of the two, Cleopus replied, "“Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” Jesus replied, "What things?"
they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, died and buried, but missing from his tomb. Jesus told them they were foolish to not think that Jesus of Nazareth had gone to Heaven. he explained to them the scriptures of himself.
as the day came to an end, the two urged Jesus to stay with them until the next morning.
"When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them." the two finally realized who he was, and before they could react, he had disappeared. “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” was the question they asked each other.
as the two reached Jerusalem, they announced to the Eleven what they had experienced. they exclaimed, "“It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”
