Antidepressants have shown to only create a small improvement compared to placebos. This was drawn from a study where patients were either given an antidepressants or a placebo. On the depression scale which ranges from 0 to 52 there was only a point difference of 2 with the antidepressants in the lead. However, there is a possibility that antidepressants could be highly effective for a small group of depressed people. Scientists against antidepressants have been hushed by scientists that support it and get wealthy through creating pharmaceutical products.
I think that antidepressants create an excuse for doctors to not have to "deal" with patients because of its image as a "miracle pill." Pills should be a stepping stone for people to be self sufficient in their own endeavors. Self efficiency also reduces the risk of anyone abusing prescription drugs.
