Walt Disney
By Heather Watkins

Walt Disney was a famous motion picture and television producer. He was known to be the pioneer of cartoon films. The best known cartoon character he created was Mickey  and Minnie Mouse. Walt Disney was born Walter Elias on December 5, 1901 in the Hermosa part of Chicago, Illinois. He is German, Irish, Canadian, and American. His mother, Flora Call Disney, is German-American, and his father Elias Disney was Canadian-Irish. He married his wife, Lillian Bounds, in 1925 after he had hied her briefly  as a ink and paint artist. He died on December 15, 1966 of lung cancer while the construction of his new theme park. He was cremated and his ashes were spread over the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

When Disney was young and him and his family had moved to Kansas City, worked a summer job for the railroad where his uncle worked. Disney's job was selling snacks and newspapers to travelers. When he was in high school he took photography and drawing classes. He had also taken night classes at the Chicago Art Institute. But when he was 16 he dropped out of school to go to the army but didn't get accepted because of his young age so he joined the Red Cross and got sent to France to drive and ambulance.

After Disney had came back from France he started working as a newspaper artist in Kansas City. Disney met a cartoonist Ubbe Eert Iwwerks ( known as Ub Iwerks) while working at Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio. Following that, Disney started working at the Kansas City Film Ad Company where commercial where based off of cutout animation. Disney, his brother Roy, and Iwerks had all relocated to California after Disney's studio Laugh O' Grams sinked in debt and had to declare bankruptcy. So after the relocation, the 3 men began the Disney Brothers Studios. A few years later they discovered that Charles Mintz, Wrinkler, and all of Disney's animators, excluding Iwerks, had stolen the rights to Oswald. So Disney, Iwerks, Roy, and their wives helped produced 3 cartoons with their new character Mickey Mouse that Disney was Mickey's original voice.

The quote above is one of Disney's most famous quotes. The quote he made before he died while he was doing the plans for disneyland was " Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." And as you can see, this is sort of true. " laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever." I believe that this is a quote the Disney animators then and now live by. Before he died he made up Steamboat Willie (1928), 'Silly Symphonies', Three Little Pigs, Flowers and Trees, Disney's Folley', Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Treasure Island, Sleeping Beauty, Susi and Strolch, 101 Dalmations, Mary Poppins and many other short films. Walt Disney received the most academy awards and nominations that any other person in history and the Award he won for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was one most unique awards received. http://www.biography.com/people/walt-disney-927553...
