X-Rays Aren't Scary!

If you didn't know, under your skin, fat, and muscles there are bones that help keep your body up! And x-rays are something that doctors use to look at your bones, whether it is to look for a boo boo or just to make sure that everything is okay. X-rays use this thing called electromagnetic radiation, which is similar to how your microwave at home works, and it uses that to show your doctor what is going on. An x-ray machine sends out invisible x-ray particles that pass through your bones and body and a film records this. Just make sure you stand really still, like you do when you take a picture! So that the picture of your bones isn't blurry. And even though it sounds kind of scary, it doesn't hurt at all and it will only take a short amount of time. It's cool how science works like that! This x-ray will show things like your bones, your joints and even your heart! And after your done doing the x-ray, you will discuss what is going on with your doctor. If you have any questions, you can always ask your doctor or your parent or guardian.
