Página 1-Diacritics, Cognates & False Cognates

What the heck are diacritics?  They're signs, such as an accent, which when written above or below a letter indicates a difference in pronunciation from the same letter when it's unmarked or differently marked.  You use them when you want to change the sound of a word.

example) Página

What the heck are cognates?  A word that is spelled/said/means the same in different languages.

example) Taco in english is taco in spanish too

What the heck are false cognates?  They're when a word sounds like something in english but actually means a different thing.

example) Absoluto in spanish and absolute in english

Why do we have cognates?  Understanding cognates and false cognates can help you understand another language.  Like if you're trying to learn spanish, some of the english words that are like the spanish words can help you learn and understand them better.  It's just a simpler way to learn and know more words using what you already know.
