Raft tying traditions
Gauja river, Latvia
Characteristic raft of Gauja river in Latvia is made of round wooden logs that are tied together forming platforms which in latvian is called plene. Afterwards those platforms are tied together making about 60m long raft consisting of 9-10 wooden platforms or plenes in latvian language. It takes about 4 - 5 hours to tie one Gauja river raft.
Also during this activity we, Gauja Rafstmen association, would like to ask you to observe and record (on paper) the process of latvian raft tying. Instructions in different languages could be very interesting for tourists and for the development of Rafters museum in Strenci town.
