Iris Chang, 5th period
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford on April 23,1564. He was the third of 7 siblings and was well educated during his childhood. He was part of the middle class and married Anne Hathaway, a local farmer's daughter. They had 3 kids: Susanna, Judith and Hamnet. He has no direct descendants, as none of them lived and passed on his bloodline.
Shakespeare became a playwright and poet. He wrote many sonnets, which became very popular. Shakespeare, unlike most freelance playwrights, worked for only one company and wrote about 2 plays a year. Most of his plays were successes, even though the theatre was closed often due to plague. Eventually, he made his own theatre, the famous Globe theatre.
During Shakespeare's last years, he only wrote 3 plays and frequently collaborated with John Fletcher, a fellow playwright. He died on his birthday, April 23, 1616, for unknown reasons.
