OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear or worry (obsessions), repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety (compulsions), or a combination of such obsessions and compulsions. Some symptoms include excessive washing or cleaning, repeated checking and extreme hoarding. About 3.3 million Americans have OCD in a given year. Behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and medication are some of the treatments for OCD. If you feel that you may have OCD, you should talk to your doctor and undergo testing for the disorder. There are many websites available for research and information on OCD.
