How many people you have control of, E.g. Mr fletcher who has a span of 2

Chain of Command

How you get a message from a top tier to bottom tier, vice versa. E.g. if Mr. Fordham wanted to ask Mr fletcher something he would have to go through Mr King, Mrs Young and then Mr Kane, then he would tell Mr Fletcher.

Delegation

Giving somebody an instruction and being in control of them

De-layering

Removing a layer from the organisation chart, this is helpful as it quickens the chain of command and there aren't so many people in charge

Centralisation

Where decision making is based at the top of the organisation chart, so the boss can make the decisions

De-centralisation

Decision making is placed lower down the organisation chart, so more junior managers have control
