Help Students Develop Reading Fluency
Teach your students to read with expression.
Fluency is the ability to make text come alive by reading aloud accurately and with good expression. It is the underpinning of good reading comprehension and serves as a foundational reading skill that builds on the student’s ability to decode words and be skilled in phonemic awareness. There are many ways in which technology tools can help all students, especially those who struggle, become more fluent readers.
Instructional Strategies and Tools
TIP: Students who struggle with fluency may read slowly, in a monotone, ignoring punctuation, or in choppy start-and-stop rhythms. Support these students with tools that allow for repeated readings and performance, and model expressive reading with audiobooks, e-books, and your own live readings.
