When I was a child, we would dress up in our costumes and our parents would drive us to our neighbours houses (we lived in the country). We would get big paper bags full of treats - a lot of them home-made. (candy apples, popcorn balls, etc). As we got a bit older, we would make the drive into town and go house to house while our parents followed along in the car. We always went with family and friends.

Nowadays, we dress up in costumes along with our children and go trick or treating in town! We like to go in groups of people - friends, family, cousins - the more the merrier! This year the dogs are coming too! We all walk together and go house to house laughing and having a great time - even when it is cold out and we are bundled up in our winter clothing. The kids rush home and dump out all of their goodies into a huge pile on the floor and spend time checking it out and tasting all the yummy treats. At Halloween we also like to go to family dances, carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds! Oh and I take tons of pictures of everybody all dressed up. :)

I always went trick-or-treating with my dad and my best friend. It was usually cold so we had to have a warm costume. One year, my best friend dressed up as a hobo with a plaid shirt, stick with a bundle on the end, dirty face and ripped jeans. It was a great costume and apparently very realistic because, unfortunately, about five houses into our evening, a lady called her a "bum". She was devastated (not knowing that some people used this term interchangeably with hobo). We continued to trick or treat but she cried the entire time. By the time we got home, her "dirty" makeup had all run off her face. We were just reminiscing about this the other day- a Halloween neither of us will ever forget!

Me and my family got to my friends haunted house and we scare people for a charity organization. I am going to be in a jack in the box this year and I hope that I scare a lot of people. On Halloween we don't have school.

My costume was made from things found in my parents' closet and Mom's jewel box and the costume ended up making me into a gypsy! Intook to the streets with friends at 5:00 pm laughing and hooping. When the bag got to heavy, home I went to empty it. We tried to go to the big homes where they gave out homemade popcorn balls and candy apples. Candy was given out by the handful. It was a fun time.

When I was a child, my mom would drive us to get treats and my dad would stay home to give out treats. One of my favourite memory is that we stopped at Mr. Patrick's farm. My sister and I were given a treat but Mr. Patrick gave my brother a choice of a treat, or a brown paper grocery bag that was closed at the top. My brother chose the brown paper bag. I remember I was jealous that I did not get this big paper bag of goodies and my brother did. We went back to the car where my mom was waiting. Once we were inside the car, we noticed that the bag was making a noise. My brother opened up the bag and inside of it were 2 baby chicks. We were all very surprised but not really surprised because Mr. Patrick was a jokester. So, my mom told my brother to return the chicks to Mr. Patrick and we laughed. So, that is one of my favourite stories of Halloween.

Halloween is my favorite holiday of all. I enjoy it because I love to scare people. My family and I used to decorate our house like a haunted house. We would put skeletons and bones on the front lawn and we would play scary music. When trick or treater came we would open the door only a little bit, just enough for the kids to see the black lights a fog floating around the room. They could see ghosts swinging from the roof and the scary monsters and such laying around the room. We would be dressed up scary and we would peek out the door. Most kids were very scared when they saw what was going on and lots of them would run away screaming. We would keep up the charade like it was real the whole time they were there. Once we handed out the candy, we would close the door and all have a good laugh! Now that my children are grown up we don't decorate and scare kids as much, but my grand baby is growing up fast and maybe one day she will enjoy scaring people on Halloween as much as I did!

One of my favorite Halloween memories happened when I was ten. My friend and I decided we were going to " do the town'. In other words, we were going to try to visit over one hundred homes. We were on our last street and we had a ton of candy, when we were accosted by a gang of teenage boys. They stole all of our candy and I chased after them for half a block, until my friend's screeching made me stop. It should of ruined our Halloween, but we just took off our hats and continued to finish the street. It was great because we accomplished our goal and the candy was secondary!
