Created in Nepal, Buddhism has been around since 600 B.C. Siddhartha Gautama (typically referred to as the Buddha) started and spread Buddhism. Buddhism has over 360 million followers in their religion. Buddhism is the 4th most common religion in the world. Buddhists are commonly found in Asia. Buddhist do not worship God, but they do worship Buddha. Tripitaka is Buddhist's book they worship. One example of a quote is "the best weapon is wisdom"- Buddha. One important holiday that Buddhists celebrate is Vesak. Vesak is Buddha's birthday. There symbol is Buddha. Theravada and Mahayana are the two types of Buddhism. Zen Buddhist often take great concentration on meditation. They can either meditate in a temple or at home, it is not essential to meditate in a temple. If they want to meditate at home, they can set aside special rooms or places. The "shrine" will often be filled with candles, incense burner, and the Buddha statue. Temples come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There are many different types of architectures. Buddhist temples are designed to symbolise the five elements:fire, air , Earth, water, and wisdom.
