Back in the day

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald took place in the 1920's in New York. The 1920's was all about the rich and the famous. If you weren't famous you weren't known by anyone. There was a lot of things that were prohibited such as alcohol was 100% illegal and there was no respect given to women. They were not aloud to vote and they couldn't chose whether or not they wanted to have a child.  If you got married you would not be aloud to get divorced if it wasn't working out. In the Great Gatsby it could not have took place at any other time period. Most of the characters from The Great Gatsby drank alcohol. If you were caught drinking or selling alcohol you would get arrested for a very long time. "I found out what your 'drug-stores' were." (133). Alcohol was illegal in the 1920's but everyone still drank and sold it. Even 10 years makes a different. In 2015 alcohol is now legal, divorce is now exceptionable, and women are given equal rights with men.

I like how you connected what was actually happening in the 1920s with the book to prove that it couldn't have taken place at any other time.
