Driverless Car

How autonomous cars will change everything

With technology rapidly changing and evolving, car manufacturers have been trying to make cars as safe as possible. Still, cars are one of the most common causes of injury or death. Experts think that autonomous cars will be a normal sight in the future, 'drivers' will be able to lean back and do other things while they are being driven by their own car. Designated drivers and rest stops will be a thing of the past. It all started with aided braking systems (ABS) and other safety features. Then carmakers started making electronic automatic gearboxes and creating things such as cruise control, in short everything a person normally does, the computer does it automatically and maybe even better. So don't be afraid when your neighbour in traffic within 10 years is reading the newspaper instead of paying attention to the road.

I think autonomous cars are certainly the future. You will be able to do your business work while you’re moving. But there’s still one difficult point, what if an accident happens with an autonomous car. Who is at fault? The passenger or the car manufacturer?

I agree that autonomous cars are the future. But with this technology we are going to face some difficult engeneering problems. Let's say you are in a situation where the car cannot brake. It can only avoid a collision that will kill you by driving into a group of pedestrians. The driver/passenger in the car will be saved but the pedestrians will be dead. What will the car do in this situation? If the car choses for only one victim it will kill you.

It’s an interesting subject to talk about these days in the automotive industry. That this concept really works, is proven by Google, Audi, Volvo and without a doubt, Tesla. That computers are better at driving once their programs are all functional has already been tested. They are able to bring you safe from point A to point B in regular traffic without you having a major crash. I think it’s a natural reaction that we are all a little bit afraid with computers taking over, but to me it’s a natural progress just like the computer was a decade ago. The only one who doesn’t like this type of driving is my inner self, who loves to shift through the gears and to have the control of my very own car.

Nice subject! Definitely a breakthrough in automotive history although not everyone will be satisfied. Most car enthusiasts won’t accept the fact of not being able to drive their own car and this also applies to me. I rather chose to drive my car than to read the newspaper in it. Nowadays each person has its own preferences on vehicles thanks to the rapidly evolved computer technology. Shifting gears while holding the steering wheel with one hand and taking turns on that same moment remains personally unchangeable. 😎
