I will be sharing you some information about the moon. The moon has phases, tides and eclipses. The different shapes of the moon you see from Earth are called phases. Tides are caused mainly by differences in how much gravity from the moon and the sun pulls on different parts of Earth. When an object in space comes between the sun and a third object, it casts a shadow on that object, causing an eclipse.
The different shapes of the moon you see from Earth are called phases. Phases are caused by the motions of the moon around Earth. The moon goes through a cycle of phases every month. The changing relative positions of the moon, Earth, and sun cause the phases of the moon. Half of the moon is almost always in sunlight. But since the moon orbits Earth, you see the moon from different angles. The phases of the moon you see depends on how much of sunlit side of the moon faces Earth. You can see these changes in about 29.5 days after the last new moon occurs again.
Tides are caused mainly by differences in how much gravity from the moon and sun pulls on different parts of Earth. At any time on Earth, there are two places with high tides and two places with low tides. As Earth rotates, one high tide occurs on the side of Earth that faces the moon. The second high tide occurs on the opposite side of Earth. The water rises for six hours then falls for about six hours. Changes in the positions of Earth, the moon, and the sun affect the heights of the tides during the month.
When an object in space comes between the sun and a third object, it casts a shadow on that object, causing an eclipse to take place. There are two types of eclipse: solar eclipse and lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between Earth and the sun, blocking sunlight from Earth. A lunar eclipse occurs at a full moon when Earth is directly between the moon and the sun. During a lunar eclipse, Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. Lunar eclipse occurs only when there is a full moon because the moon is closest to Earth so shadow at that time.
The moon is important because it occurs different stuff. It occurs phases, tides, and eclipses.
