Rules of the Shogun:
Katrina- Entry 2
#1. Samurai is the only ones that are allowed to carry swords and are to be controlled by Shoguns and Daimyos. This rule is intended to give Samurai some control and power but not too much because the Shoguns and Daimyo still control their living quarters.
#2. Women must wear the proper identifying kimonos, that show their social class. For example high class women would have to wear 14 silk kimonos, while a peasant wear a less fancy material (two layers). This rule is intended to show identification of the woman's social class and to tell peasants the height to bow towards them.
#3. Peasants must never smoke/drink rice wine or tobacco or leave without permission. This rule is intended to limit the peasant's power/freedom and luxury which is to make the peasants feel less and not as high up as nobility.
#4. Artisans must stay to a strict occupation and must never change and whatever objects Artisans produce, they must give 1/2 of their profit to the Shoguns. This rule is intended to keep the interest of each occupation alive and thriving, and they must give a tax of 1/2 their profit to the Shoguns to fund the empire.
#5. Merchants must record which Artisans they buy items from. This rule is intended to assure that only respected Artisan's items are sold and distributed through the empire, keeping all merchandise honourable.
#6. He shall give only a slight nod to any class, excluding outcast, no acknowledge for them. This rule is intended to assure that the Emperor remains the highest up and everyone recognizes it.
#7. They may never show their face in the city after 3:00 pm, and they are not to be acknowledged at all. This rule is intended to make sure the city does not get dishonoured by such low of people.
#8. They have the second highest rule under the Emperor, through they can't defile the Emperor, they are to have a lot of say in the rules and how the empire is ran. This rule is intended to make the Shoguns have power and some rule which gave them some superiority under the Emperor.
#9. All Nobles must wear only green and blue clothing to symbolize their class and responsibilities. This rule is intended to assure their social class and the respect that is due to them.
#10. All Daimyos must treat their land-working peasants with respect and honour. This rule is intended to make sure the peasants are beaten and can perform their job to the best of their ability.
