Marley & Me

by John Grogan (Book Report by John Reasoner)

Marley & Me is a memoir written by the newspaper columnist John Grogan. It starts after he and his new wife, Jenny, start a life together in suburban Florida. After a few months, they decide that they want to adopt a puppy to start their family. They settle on a wild and crazy yellow lab that they name Marley. The memior spans the family's entire life with Marley as John and Jenny welcome their three children (Patrick, Conor, and Colleen) into their family and move across the country.

I really enjoyed Marley & Me! I thought the descriptions of Marley's crazy antics were hilarious and very relatable (I also have a male yellow lab who can also be very insane). Grogan did a very good job of recalling his memories into a plot that flows. I like that I was able to grow close to all of the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs, stories about families, and who can handle a little bit of sobbing toward the end of the story.
