Rap Band Comment Battle!
Okay. So you guys may or may not know that I am a HUGE fan of rap music, and you guys may or may not know that I made a Tackk on the history of The Beastie Boys. But, in order to settle a four-way argument, I have decided to make a COMMENT BATTLE! "Well what is a comment battle, Max?" says you. Well, it's where I give you choices for a contest of some sort, and YOU take to the comments section, and give YOUR opinion on the subject. Whoever gets the most votes wins! So, with that in mind, here are your options:
Option #1: Public Enemy
Yeah Boy! Public Enemy has been shockin' and rockin' us since 1982, with legendary songs like Don't Believe the Hype, harder than you think, Bring the Noise, Race Against Time, By the Time I Get to Arizona, and Fight the Power. They have had many members over the years, but the main men include hype man Flavor Flav and lead rapper Chuck D. Not only were they rappers, but they were civil rights activists, defying and attacking figures of power in racism. They have collaborated with Anthrax to make a Rock Rap song called Bring the Noise, as mentioned above.
Option #2: Run-DMC
As the second rap act to be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, Run-DMC has grown in popularity since the day they started. With hits like It's Tricky, Rock Box, My Adidas, and their Rock Rap collaboration with Aerosmith, Walk This Way, it's hard not to like them. Members include Rev Run, D.M.C., and Jam Master Jay.
Option #3: Beastie Boys
Kick it! It's the Beastie Boys. As the first white rap group of any importance, the Beasties have rapped with a comedic tone in songs like Girls, Brass Monkey, Paul Revere, Intergalactic, Sure Shot, (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party) and Shake Your Rump. They've also been able to pull of the hardcore image in songs like Pass the Mic, The New Style, and Professor Booty. They've been around for 33 years, making them the longest-lasting rap group of all time.
Option #4: Wu-Tang Clan
With about 10 members, including legends RZA, Method Man, and Ghostface Killah, the Wu-Tang Clan were definitely the largest and most hardcore rap band of the 90's, especially with songs like C.R.E.A.M, Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin ta F*** Wit, and Shame on a N****. If you want to start a hardcore rap band, hightail it over to these guys.
So, What do You Think?
So after reading about all of these rap bands, cast your vote. You have a week to do so. If you were displeased that your favorite rap band wasn't included, feel free to vote for that group. The results will be posted here next week!
Okay, after the comments shown, we had a THREE-WAY tie between the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and The Wu-Tang Clan. Sorry Run-DMC, better luck next time.
