Codominance in chickens

  • 2 alleles are both expressed as a dominant phenotype
  • Individuals receive an allele from each parent
  • Shows a new trait not the dominant or recessive trait from the parents
  • Usually a blending between the 2 parents dominant and recessive traits
  • When both alleles are expressed equally in the phenotype of an organism

Codominance in Chickens

  • Mixture between a white chicken and a black chicken create a speckled black and white one
  • The offspring of the white and black chicken is speckled due to codominance where it took neither the black nor white phenotype but created a new mixed one
