Frederick Douglass mini research assignment

My Topic is anti-slavery politicians.

There were many important politicians in the anti-slavery cause. Black, white, former slaveholders, former slaves, and even people who helped without even trying. John Quincy Adams never considered himself an abolitionist, but he still did many things that helped the anti slavery cause. He led a campaign to get rid of the "gag rule", where anti slavery petitions were automatically tabled by the house of representatives. He also successfully defended the "Amistad rebels", slaves which had revolted land taken over a Spanish slave ship on their way from Africa to America. Richard Allen was born a slave, but eventually he and his master underwent religious conversion and his master, now convinced slavery was a sin, let him and his brother buy their freedom. He went on to lead the country's first African American church.
