Mastering Milkweed: Exploration from Floss to Fashion
Tuesday, May 6, Noon to 1 PM
Presentation Room 128, Library, CDC
A chronicle of Trudy Landgren’s journey and experimentation with creatively using milkweed, a local, common plant to provide warm yet fashionable attire.
The prevalence of this fiber-producing plant in prairie meadows and roadside ditches made milkweed floss an inviting, sustainable fiber to re-investigate.
The journey has taken Landgren from re-creating a capelet that she saw at a textile seminar at a living history museum to using the fiber in conjunction with wool to create a completely new fabrication that could be used to make a jacket.
