Ernest Rutherford

Creator of the Current Molecular Model

-Rutherford was born in Brightwater, New Zealand.
-He earned his first degree in 1892 at Canterbury College, Christchurch.
-He moved to Canada in 1898 to become a professor of physics at McGill University in Montreal, QC.

-Rutherford died in 1937 from a strangulated hernia because he was a lord and couldn't see a doctor fast enough.

-Ernest Rutherford came up with the Rutherford Model of the atom at Manchester University in 1911

-The discovery proposed that an atom had a structure.

-The discovery provided evidence to disprove the Plum Pudding Model of the atom.

-The model allows scientists to estimate how close an alpha particle could get to the center of an atom.
-Rutherford proved that electrons were not responsible for the deviations of alpha particles.

-The model provided a starting point for Quantum Physics to be developed.
