Costa Rica is a country in Central America. Their population is about 4.9 million people, their national language is only spanish, their capitol is San José, and their currency is the colón. They are in between Panama and Nicaragua.

Famous Destinations

One place in Costa Rica that is hard to pass up is the coastal town of Santa Teresa. When you are there, you can do many beach activities like surfing, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, and kite surfing.

Another popular destination in Costa Rica is La Fortuna de San Carlos. Nearby is Costa Rica's mort active volcano, Arenal, and there is also a beautiful waterfall, the Catarata de La Fortuna. There are also hot springs there.

A place people also like to go is Tamarindo. It is a beach location with all the beach activities, but it is also where the sea turtles hatch and swim. There are nice hotels you can stay at to relax.

There are some sayings that are special to Costa Rica. One of these is ¡pura vida! which literally means "pure life", but can be used for hello, goodbye, or an exclamation. Another saying is "mae". This means "dude" with freinds, but can also just refer to a man or a woman. One last saying they have is ¿que m'iche? which means "what's up".


One staple food in Costa Rica is black beans and rice, or gallo pinto. It is the backbone of Costa Rican cuisine. You would probably expect it in most every meal. Another food that is commonly served in Costa Rica is the plantain. It may look like a big banana, but it cannot be eaten raw. Once it is fried or baked though, it is sweet, healthy, delicious snack.


Costa Rica as a very ranging climate. The average temperature is from 70 to 81 degrees. But, the higher you go, the foggier and cooler it gets. On the beaches, it is dry and warm, perfect for swimming and other activities. There is a rainy season from May to November.
