ABOUT VERONICA ROTH...
Veronica Roth is an American novelist and short story writer known for her Divergent trilogy, consisting of Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. Veronica was born August 19, 1988 in New York City, New York. She began writing her Divergent trilogy when she was still in college. Roth has also written books such as: Free Four and Shards & Ashes, her 2 short stories.
FIRST JUMPER, TRIS....
Beatrice "Tris' Prior is the novel's narrator and main protagonist. She is a strong-willed sixteen year old who hates to show weakness. Tris was an Abnegation faction-born, meaning she was born into that Faction, but eventually becomes a Dauntless transfer and must face the fact that she is Divergent. At the beginning of her initiation she is the weakest of her peers and fears becoming factionless (without a faction), she starts to build up her confidence when her initiation leader, Tobais "Four", gives her help with her techniques for fighting and aptitude testing.
"Beatrice was a girl I saw in stolen moments at the mirror, who kept quiet at the dinner table. This is someone whose eyes claim mine and don't release me; this is Tris." - Tris Prior
Futuristic, Dystopian Chicago...
The city where Tris lives isn't at all like the Chicago we know and love. For one thing, there's a giant fence going around the city locking everyone in, another thing is that the Lake Michigan has become a swamp and for yet another thing, large parts of the city are crumbling or in ruins. We never find out what really happens to the city but we know it couldn't have been good. The city is divided into 5 factions: Abnegation..The Selfless, Dauntless..The Brave, Amity..The Peaceful, Candor..The Honest, and Erudite..The Intelligent. Each faction has their own part of the city and hates if any other factions come to trespass on their grounds.
Oh are you a little...stiff?
In Divergent, much of the conflict revolves around Tris coming to terms with her identity as a member of her chosen faction as well as an individual who is Divergent in her society.
you gotta keep your head up, tris...
To me Divergent is funny, sad, exciting, suspenseful, and just all around AMAZING. In my honest opinion this is the best series book I've ever read. It connects to a lot of real life points, concepts and just overall life choices. There's a girl who has to make a choice in how she's going to live the rest of her life, she thinks about her family's well being along with her's even though it's against faction rules. She is nothing but the most, selfless, intelligent, kind, honest, and brave individual out of every Divergent in that city.
A memorable, unpredictable journey...
The theme of this story is that regardless of the labels put on you, regardless of the boundaries people try to put in your way to always make your decisions based on what your heart and mind is telling you. Never let anyone stand in the way of you being who you really are.
my opinion? okay
I honestly like this book because it's just like the little fantasy world's i disappear into when I'm having a good or bad day. This story resembles the morals my parents have taught me throughout my life. I think I would definitely be Divergent because i fit into all the factions in some way, shape or form. I would recommend this book to anyone, not any ONE person or group of people in particular, just anyone who is willing to take the time to really interpret the meaning and significance of the things in this book.
