What is necessary?
A Jeffersonian point of view of the national debt
- DId you know that Hamilton increased the national debt for no apparent reason? the national debt of 54 Million was increased by 21.5 million when Hamilton decided that it was necessary to take on the states debt, even though states like Virginia had already Successfully paid theirs off.
-he also insisted that we pay off the debt at par, even though we probobly could have gotten away with not doing so, and thus saved millions of dollars.
-The idea to pay off this debt was to place a tarriff on imported goods, thus decreasing consumer options.
