When someone is considered overweight or obese it means that their weight is greater than what is generally considered healthy.
If you are obese or overweight, you may suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure, increased risk for cancer, type 2 diabetes, infertility, stroke, or breathing difficulties. Being overweight is also tied to sleep apnea in which your breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. None of that sounds fun, does it?
Obesity happens because you eat more calories than you use in your body, and so your body converts the excess to fat.
