My Word Wall

What is it?

My Word Wall is an app that allows students to write words that they have learned in the app, identify sight words, and keep them on a word wall. This app also allows the student to hide words or scramble letters which allows for varying degrees of difficulty.

How to use it.

This app would be used in the lower grades in an elementary school. I personally would use it in stations or pairs where all of the students get a chance with My Word Wall at some point in the lesson. After the stations are finished it may be helpful to go into the section "my words" and share great examples with the class.

BrainPOP Featured Movie

What is it?

BrainPOP Featured Movie App is an app that allows students to view animated videos on a variety of subjects such as science, math, social studies, and english. After the animated video is complete there is a quiz that the student can answer.

How to use it.

This app is a great supplement to the knowledge learned in class. The format of the app is very child oriented and has an appealing template. This app can also be used by students to gain more knowledge about a project that they are working on but it also may foster a desire to learn outside of the classroom on unrelated but still informative topics.

Evernote

What is it?

I think that a better question is what isn't it? Evernote has the capability to do everything. You may take notes, study with Evernote peek, read without distraction with Evernote Clearly, and much more.

How to use it.

Evernote can be used in partners as a study tool with Evernote Peek. Evernote peek could also be used in small groups or teams as a trivia based game. Individual students who have difficulty focusing on text could use Evernote Clearly to enhance their reading efficiency.

Virtual Manipulative's

What is it?

Virtual Manipulatives is a free app that allows the student to use math manipulative's on a mobile device.

How to use it.

The student may use this app as an aid with homework or as a learning tool for fractions. This app also has a drawing capability which allows the teacher to assign problems by writing on the tablet then the student can answer the question using the manipulative's.

Khan Academy App

What is it?

The Khan Academy App helps students learn how to do math or science problems with guidance from Khan Academies many qualified teachers.

How to use it.

The problem is drawn out step by step by the teacher who is also talking you through the problem. This gives the student the ability to pause an replay the video as many times as necessary as they work through the problem. Additionally, the app asks questions and offers hints to help students learn.
