He created the periodic table. He noticed the atomic mass between adjacent elements was never consistant though the change in nuclear charge only varied by one. The defining characteristic between the elements and atoms even got ts own name; atomic number. he found on the set of "k" lines the frequency was consistant in an orderly way. Of all properties of an atom, the atomic number is the most important.
