Romeo is one of the title characters in William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Romeo Montague, 16, passed away Thursday, July 18th, 1578.
Romeo was born in Verona and was the only child and son of Lord and Lady Montague. He was educated at home by private tutors and governesses. He lived a happy, joyful, and fun-filled life.
Romeo was always a popular figure about Verona. However, recently he had become involved in a bitter family feud with the Capulet family and was banished to Mantua following the death of Tybalt Capulet in the town square.
He lived a quiet life in Mantua until he heard the news about the death of Juliet Capulet. He dashed back to Verona and went to the Capulet’s vault. It is likely he killed Paris in the vault because Paris was found dead inside. Seeing Juliet dead, Romeo drank a mysterious but deadly elixir.
After Romeo’s death, Friar Lawrence revealed that Romeo had married Juliet Capulet in secret. Juliet Capulet also died this week.
He is survived by his parents, Lord and Lady Montague.
Juliet Capulet, 13, passed away Thursday, July 18th, 1578.
Juliet was born in Verona and was the only child and daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet. She lived a privileged and extravagant life in the Capulet home. She was raised by the Capulet’s nurse, who acted as Juliet’s own mother. Juliet trusted the nurse until the nurse started to speak poorly of Romeo Montague.
Juliet was engaged to Count Paris on Monday, July 15th, 1578. She was to marry Count Paris Thursday, July 18th, 1578.
However, Juliet’s last days were surrounded by controversy. Friar Lawrence revealed that Juliet had been secretly married to Romeo Montague leaving her in the position of being engaged to Paris but married to Romeo when she died.
Juliet was falsely pronounced dead the previous day, cause of death unknown, and a funeral service was held for her. Later, she was found in the Capulet’s vault with Romeo’s dagger in her chest; suggesting she committed suicide.
She is survived by her parents, Lord and Lady Capulet.
Mercutio, 19, was killed on Wednesday, July 17th, 1578.
Mercutio was born in Verona and son of Emelia and Claudio Fulbourne. He had a brother named Valentine. He was related to the Prince and Count Paris , who also died this week.
Mercutio was a close friend of Romeo Montague, who was also killed this week, and Benvolio Montague.
Friends of Mercutio say he was a loyal friend and had a witty sense of humor that, some say, became an annoyance.
Tybalt Capulet, 18, was killed on Wednesday, July 17th, 1578.
Tybalt was born in Verona and was the son of Edgar and Celia Capulet. He was Lady Capulet’s nephew and Juliet Capulet’s cousin. He was educated at home, and had ambitions to become a town leader.
Friends of Tybalt say he was very eager to protect the reputation of his family and prove himself as being the toughest of the younger Capulet generation. Sadly, this may have led to his death.
He is survived by his parents, Edgar and Celia Capulet.
