About Sandra Belmont
Sandra Belmont, MD, FACS, is a board certified ophthalmologist and cornea specialist. She is a former director of the Cornea Service and the founding Director of the Laser Vision Correction Center at Weill Medical College of Cornell University - New York Presbyterian Hospital. She completed her ophthalmology training in 1983 and became a corneal fellow at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital under Dr. Richard C. Troutman, whom she succeeded after Dr. Troutman’s retirement. Since then, almost 20 fellows have successfully completed Sandra Belmont’s Corneal Fellow Program.
Sandra Belmont, MD, FACS, is currently the Director of Resident Refractive Surgical Education and Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine. She is also in private practice at her own Belmont Eye Center in New York City. Dr. Belmont has treated farsightedness, nearsightedness, presbyopia, astigmatism for thousands of patients including Jimmy Fallon, Colin Quinn and Regis Philbin. As a specialist in corneal Disease and injury, she has performed corneal transplants on thousands of patients including Mandy Patinkin, star of Showtime's "Homeland" and a leading advocate for eye and organ donation. Dr. Belmont is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery’s Oversight Committee on Laser Vision Correction.
