Founders of the colonies and Why
Massachusetts was founded in 1620 (Plymouth) and by the seperatist and in 1630 (Massachusetts Bay) by the puritans for religious freedom from the church of England so they could practice whatever religion they pleased without being persecuted for their beliefs.
New Hampshire was founded by proprietors like John Mason in 1623. It was founded because it was a great spot for trading and fishing. A very popular and wealthy city for trading in New Hampshire was Portsmouth.
Rhode Island was founded by Rodger Williams for religious freedom in 1636. Rodger Williams was a believer in the separation of church and state and religious tolerance so Rhode Island follows these beliefs in it's government.
Connecticut was founded by puritans and Thomas Hooker. The puritans were seeking more land during Great Migration. Thomas founded Connecticut after dissenting with puritan leaders in Massachusetts.
