Supreme Court Justice
Sonia Sotomayor is an Associate Supreme Court Justice appointed by President Barack Obama on May 9th 2009. She was born on June 25th, 1954 in the Bronx, New York. She had an average income family after her dad died in 1963. Her mom worked as a a nurse in a clinic while her father worked as a tool-and-die worker. She went to Yale Law School, passed the bar exam, and graduated top of her class in 1980. Fun Fact: She is the first Hispanic Associate Justice to serve.
Although she did not hear any controversial cases, she did hear some. In 1979, she joined the Manhattan District Attorney. This was a period of a massive increase of muggings, burglaries, and assaults.
Justice Sotomayor is mainly regarded as a Moderate Liberal justice. In an article titled “Justice Sotomayor and the Jurisprudence of Procedural Justice” the Yale Law Journal describes Sotomayor’s jurisprudence as Procedural Justice, which is rooted in making fair decisions along with writing high quality opinions.
