My name is Ryan Jenkins and I'm 26. I am on the Union. I live in Indiana. July 21, 1863. I live with my wife and my brother and my brother is away at the war.

Day 1: This morning I went around and talked about the war to the neighborhood. Then I went on a jog for about an hour. After that I took a bath and hung out with my wife. Then I took a nap. In the afternoon I helped recruit soldiers with an officer. I went fishing in my pond with my son. We didn't catch any for a while so we went inside and played a game. Then I had a good talk with my wife.

Day 2: Dear Tom,

I heard you were in The First Battle of Bull Run! Are you alright? Tell me all about it when you get the chance. I haven't heard from you in a while. Everything back home has been great lately. Get back to me soon.

Sincerely Ryan

Day 3: Today I woke up and went to help raise money for the War. We take donations and do things for people for money. After that I walked on my hiking trail with my dog. When I got back I put up posters on buildings for the War. Then I went home and relaxed for a while. Later on my wife and I went to the local diner. When we left I ran into my brother's friends from the war and we talked to some teenagers about the war.

Day 4: Dear Ryan,

Yes, I was in the First Battle of Bull Run. I am very lucky to be alive right now. Many of my friends died in the battle. It was a terrible battle for both sides of the War. I was also in another crazy battle and I almost got shot. I'm not sure what the battle was called. I hope everything is going well for you guys. I don't know when I will be home but I can only hope soon.

Sincerely Tom

My family and I were very happy to hear back from Tom. I started thinking he could have been hurt. We all hope he comes home soon.

Day 5:

I just heard about Abraham Lincoln's assassination. I am very mad and sad. Abraham Lincoln was a very great president. My whole family is mad about his death. I don't think I will ever get over this. Our country will never be the same.

I went into town and everyone was being quiet. I knew something must have happened. I went to my friend Jim and asked him what's going on and that's when he told me. I was outraged, just as everyone else around was. The man who killed him deserves to be executed in the worst way.

The president did not deserve to have this happen. He was always great to the people. He never did anything wrong to us or anyone. I don't see why that terrible man did it. If I ever saw him I don't even know what I would do to him. I'm simply outraged right now and our country has suffered a great loss.
